Hello class,
I am copying the rules and procedures part of the syllabus here. I will be printing off the entire syllabus later in the week when everyone is in their rightful class.
Classroom Rules/Norms
1.
Enter the classroom on
time with all of your materials and be seated before bell rings.
2.
Sit in your assigned seat
daily.
3.
Keep all hands, feet and
objects to yourself.
4.
Respect yourself, each
other, and the instructor.
5.
Follow directions the
first time they are given.
Classroom
Procedures
Attendance Policy:
Students
must be in their seats at the beginning of class. Students who are tardy must
have an admit that will be turned in to me. If a student is absent, he or she
should check the “Absent Basket.” This basket will have handouts and work for
each day. Students should ask a classmate for any notes he or she missed. If the student has any questions, he or she
should set up a time to meet with me during lunch or after school. Students
will have three day for each day missed to turn in any late work. Late work
will result in a loss of points.
Entering the
room:
Students will enter the room
talking with level 2 voices, turn in homework in their class tray, and go to
their assigned seats. If necessary students may pick up pens and pencils from
the front chair, HOWEVER these pens and pencils will not be replenished if they
go missing. Pencil sharpening must be done BEFORE class begins. This means that students should keep
themselves and their classmates accountable!
All students will then begin their “Hacer Ahora/Do Now” on their own
piece of paper that should go into their binder. Students will have time
designated to them on the board to complete the warm-up. Warm-ups will be checked before the beginning
of the lesson.
Exiting the
room.
First Coast HS does use bells, HOWEVER they do not dismiss you, I do.
I will keep an eye on the time, and let students know when it is time to pack
up. At that time, students will put away all materials and return to their
seats if they are at a center. After the
closing, students will be dismissed.
Restroom
Students will be allowed to use the restroom only after the first 15
minutes of class and not during the last 15 minutes, unless an emergency
occurs. Each student will receive five bathroom pass per grading period.
Electronics
All electronic devices should be stored in accordance with school
policy. If a student is caught using an electronic device during class, it will
be immediately confiscated.
Classroom Conduct
Students must remain in their assigned seats unless instructed
otherwise. If a student needs to leave the classroom, he or she should raise
his or her hand. I reserve the right to say yes or no to the student as he or
she might miss crucial instruction by leaving the room. No students will be
allowed to leave the classroom for the first 15 minutes of class except in the
case of an emergency.
Group Work
Students will have an opportunity to work in groups frequently. Group
procedures will be explained clearly and students should apply with appropriate
voice levels. All members of the groups should complete the assignment. Most
importantly, students should remain respectful of one another’s opinions and
always keep an open mind.
Testing
Students will take a test every nine weeks. These tests let us identify student strengths
and potential areas of confusion.
When
we are testing, students should always follow these rules:
§ Follow
directions the first time they are given
§ Be
respectful of those around them especially if they finish early
§ Remember
to keep their eyes focused on their own paper
§ Relax
and do their best J
Discipline Plan
If a student breaks a class rule stated, the following consequences will
occur:
1.
Verbal Reminder
2.
Changing Seats
3.
Phone Call Home
4.
School Discipline
Referral
*If a student commits a serious
infraction, steps in the discipline plan may be skipped.
Homework
Homework should be placed in the appropriate basket
at the beginning of class. If a student has an excused absence, he or she has
three days for each day absent to make
up the homework. Each day that a homework assignment is late, 10 points will be
deducted from the total grade.
OJO/ Pay Attention:
1) It is
the responsibility of the student to find out what homework he/she has missed.
The student should check Blogger, then
meet with another student in the class before contacting the professor.
2) An unexcused
absence from class is not an acceptable excuse for not turning in homework. If
you know that you will be missing class for an extracurricular or sports, it is
your responsibility to turn the work in before the time it is due or to
make arrangements with the teacher.
3) If you missed
class for a medical or legal excuse or excused by the school, you have 24 hours
to show a document verifying the reason for your absence. This excuse will only
allow you to turn in your homework in accordance with the three days policy.
A note about disruptive behavior. Disruptive behavior will not
be tolerated in the classroom. Disruptive behavior is defined as any language
or action that results in the interruption of the day's learning goals. For
example, chronic lateness to class, working on assignments for other classes,
chronically asking to leave the classroom are disruptive. Finally, there is a
zero level of tolerance for biased, prejudiced, or inflammatory language. If a
student is disrespectful to his/her peers, the teacher or the object of study,
the minimum consequence of these actions will be the he/she will receive a zero
for the day's participation grade. Further action may be required based on the
severity of the case.
Honor Code:
All
work that you turn in for credit must be 100% your own. Please remember that
you are subject to all provisions regarding cheating and plagiarism found in
your student handbook. Any violation of
the honor code will result in the minimum of a grade of F on that
assignment.
