Not for Extra Credit-Class Work

Students, you will need to compare and contrast Mitt Romney's view on immigration to Obama's. There are two examples of articles provided below. You can use a Venn Diagram or a chart to complete this.

We are reading this, because many Spanish speakers are immigrants.  It is important to see how Spanish speakers are affected by policies within the United States.

cursory

 cur (run, go)

adj.    hasty and without attention to detail; not thorough

The work was completed cursorily and so did not receive a high grade.

Now, I want you to use it in a sentence.

Now! I want you to write a paper about one of the following topics.

You can either write about:

A place you want to visit in your Spanish speaking country.
  • Why do you want to visit?
  • Where is the place within the country?
  • What are some things that you would do there?

Jobs in Jacksonville that need Spanish.
  • Why is Spanish important/needed for that job?
  • Why should you learn Spanish?
  • Do you think that there will be more or less Spanish speaking jobs in the future?

Prepare 6 slides today to do a presentation on Friday.

  1. This class sucks. I think it would be a lot better if you were more inthusiastic instead of like an overseer. This is my most dreaded class. I think it has the potential to be a lot better. Isn't learning supposed to be fun?

    Sincerely,
    A student...

  2. Dear student,

I am enthusiastic about my classes. However, I am supposed to teach you about a topic that I love not facilitate free time. Learning is fun, however this does not mean that we are playing games, constant chatter, or always doing activities. Learning includes note taking, projects, and work time. These "boring" activities will help you be ready for college classes and the work place. My classroom needs to be orderly before it can be fun. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
